home > disaster recovery centre > security
Security is a consideration at any business premises. A Disaster Recovery Centre needs to offer security that will satisfy the most stringent of customers and at the same time intrude as little as possible on use of facilities. At DSM we believe we have the balance right.
The centre is protected by:
- External fencing and lockable compound
- Compound perimeter security system
- Exterior motion sensing lighting
- External camera system
- Security cameras on all entrances and exits
- On site security monitoring
- On site and off site recording
- Automatic locking on all internal doors
- 24 hour 365 day a year manned security
- Door control with camera system
- Mechanical locking plus proximity card coverage of server suite
- 24 x 7 x 365 recording within server suite
- Caged security zones within server suite
- Programmable access cards
The programmable access cards have been installed to allow controlled access to areas. A user may only enter where his/her card permits, through a door swipe system. Cards can be programmed to provide different access levels at differing times and revocation can be done at system level. Forensics are provided by the system, which can provide an audit of users movement through the access card system. Access control is door specific, thus a technician may be allowed through the server room door and into locked cage one, but denied access to cages two and three. Ingress permission can also be timed, so that it is revoked once a specific task is completed
The server room has a double door lock system and equipment is protected by three separate floor to roof locked cages - It is a 'classic trick' to break a glass to commit a theft or obtain access. The server room is protected by a mechanical lock to prevent this type of access. On entry into the server room four high definition JPEG images are taken of all users and stored by time and date. Separate camera monitoring runs in this room 24 x 7.
The exterior of the centre is protected by security cameras 24 x 7. These are driven by sophisticated motion-sensing software. From dusk to dawn these are programmed to send messages via email and SMS to security staff, alerting to any potential intrusion.
