OFFSITE BACKUP
Offsite backup is a key component in the survival and
resilience of any organisation. It's a fact that if you lose your data
you're unlikely to survive. Lose your computing facilities for 10 days
or more and the same applies. Data growth is currently running at circa
75% per annum. Email, vital for communicating with customers, colleagues
and suppliers is expanding in volume and message size. Traditional tape
devices and backup time windows cannot cope.
Offsite backup overcomes these problems - it also offers
substantial additional benefits.
Managing tape backups is an involved process, especially
when they fail, which is common. This puts a substantial demand on IT
staff time, valuable time which could be spent productively.
The average failure rate of tape backups is 30%. This
is usually only apparent when there's a need to recover files. In some
scenarios loss of data has legal and regulatory penalties.
The Data Protection Act, FSA, Human Rights Legislation,
Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise all require that information
is both secured and retrievable. Other regulatory bodies, such as the
Law Society also impose demands. '
Due diligence' and 'Directors liability'
legislation demand that you provide security and recoverability of files
over a significant number of years. Our offsite backup system creates
a more reliable, efficient and recoverable means of doing this.
The system is also scaleable - from 25GB to 10TB+ -
so however big you get, it can cope. What's more, finding and recovering
a file won't require finding the appropriate tape drive, the correct
backup set and wading through tape after tape. What traditionally can
take days can be recovered in minutes, including individual emails.
And manageability is also simple - IT professionals can manage the backup
for your entire organisation from one simple secure PC based console.
They can run multiple backup sets, set encryption levels and detailed
reporting on what's been safely and securely uploaded
