HIGHLY SECURE OFFSITE BACKUP

Security is a major issue for modern business. In certain situations it is mandatory, Including requirements of Data Protection, FSA and Human Rights legislation. Directors of businesses have a 'duty of care ' to exercise 'due diligence' in ensuring compliance. Serious breaches can now lead to personal prosecution and compensation requirements. Typical issues include:

ENCRYPTION

In order to provide the protection you require, you have the option of applying several levels of encryption - up to government grade. This can be selectively applied or done so as a policy - for example so that all HR Records are encrypted. This remains encrypted during transit and whilst on the data vault. The only way the file can be re-opened is with your encryption key. If you recover files from the vault to your LAN/WAN, the BCCollector can automatically decrypt these using the key.

CONTROL

In an environment with more than 1 server to backup, more than 1 tape device and multiple operating systems managing and controlling backups becomes a major headache. It involves physically loading tapes (or tape magazines), moving from machine to machine, and using disparate software controls.  These are often unreliable - particularly at reporting backup failure.

Our system allows complete control of all backups over multiple-servers and multiple platforms from 1 GUI (Graphic User Interface) that can be installed at several desktops on your network. This is of course password protected. It allows the running of multiple backup sets and proactively reports on backup status. Reporting can be as detailed as required. It provides complete, detailed secure control - with minimal administration.

OTHER SECURITY FEATURES

The only information we have about your vault is its size. The Vault is contained within a secured cage in a secured server room. This room is within a secured building in a fenced gated compound. The collector on your site will typically be a secured machine and only cache the very latest backed up files. The opportunity to lose a tape, or for a disgruntled or ambitious employee to take a tape - or copied tape - to a competitor on leaving, doesn't exist.

TAPE - OFFSITE STORAGE LIABILITY

If you are storing tapes off-site, These need to be professionally transported and stored in a humidity, temperature, magnetically shielded environment that is secure. Carrying tapes in the IT manager's / FD / MD's car for storage in a shed/garage/attic is unlikely to provide compliance with legal requirements for protection of data and even more unlikely to provide an environment where tapes will survive and be recoverable. It is possible that negligence in this area could compromise both your organisation and its Directors. Professional tape storage and transport is costly and can lead to recovery delays.
